Progress - Week 4 Lab Day: 20/02/2025 (Last day!) On this day, we made the most progress we had ever completed before and completed our project! Progress: We finally completed and printed the "Sensor Head" after many hours spent on the design, from paper to printing We received our much needed nerf darts with the nerf blaster We received the "base" box We got to work assembling the entire build We began to test the entire system, from rotation to detection to firing We optimised the build and found new problems and innovative solutions 3D Designs: With all of our 3D design work complete, we were finally able to print off and receive the parts that we needed: the "Sensor Head" and a "Lid" to be attached together. Additionally, we received our base box part, which is vital as it contains the "organs" (critical electronics) such as the arduino UNO R4 WIFI motherboard, electrical wiring, breadboard and power source (9V battery) for the...

Progress - Week 3 Lab Day: 13/02/2025 In this week, we were mainly focussed on 3 things: 3D Designs Testing and improving software Trying to find the correct nerf darts for our project 1 - 3D Designs: Though nearly completed, we had a set back as we realised that the base of our project which we had worked on for the past 2 weeks (base + lid + connection design) and that we wanted to print that week was rejected, and we were told to order a box instead from a local supplier. So we ordered a box and were awaiting its arrival. We also focussed on the design on the projectile launcher, in which we decided to use attach 2 DC geared motors in the sensor head, which would allow us to attach 2 plastic wheels and fire the nerf darts by spinning really quickly in opposing directions. As a result, it was necessary to calculate the right spaces to fit the geared motors with enough space for the nerf dart to be placed in-between. 2 - Testing and Improving Software: We also pressed on t...

Progress - Week 2 Lab Day: 06/02/2025 Parts: We finally received the majority of our ordered parts and started to work on the hardware Because we started the coding section earlier in week 1, we made much progress testing the software and hardware together This also meant that we could identify bugs (of which we found many) and solve them more quickly Software: Completed rotation software with basic simulation for radar UI (i.e. to link the rotation of the servo motor to the scanning speed on the radar screen) Began working on the code for the sensor - detection and range finding Additionally optimising radar UI while we improve/change the system code Added digital buttons for "System On/Off", "Rotation On/Off" and "Fire" for the projectile launcher Hardware: Finally received components Worked with servo motor to optimise and test rotation code Worked with ultrasonic sensor to work on detection and range finding 3D Design: Modular-based design system Bas...

Progress - Week 1 ***This is the beginning of our "Sonar Radar System" project!*** Lab Day: 30/ 01/2025 Basic Idea: Our project is a sonar/radar tracking system designing to scan, identify and target objects within a certain vicinity. It will do this via an ultrasonic senor rotating 180 degrees across an open area, with an expected range 0-40cm. Our project will also consist of nerf dart-based projectile launcher that will be mounted alongside our sensor for easy targeting and launching. The aim of this project is for us to build a cool and fun project whilst gaining much knowledge and experience with electronic circuitry, tools, computer-aided design, software, documentation, report writing, project presentation, communication and teamwork. Plan: 1) We would start by reviewing our components, finding each set of measurements on their respective datasheets and beginning our 3D CAD software designs via designing around those certain dimensions. 2) We would also review and test...
